Jan Aarden
It is common knowledge: the Jan Aardens is difficult to beat. Especially on the tough jobs they are diehards of the first water. They are not birds to let their wings droop quickly. Smaragd I & II (the Emeralds)
Champion De Smaragd II, winner of 1st Open Dutch National (5,481b) 1st Open International Barcelona 750mls (21,175b) 1988. Purchased by Louella Stud (U.K.) for 77,000-pounds !
Champion De Smaragd I, winner of 1st Open National Barcelona, 1st Open International Barcelona Hens, 10th Open International (13,033b) 750mls. Many fanciers would have retired such a pigeon, however Smaragd I was prepared for Barcelona a second time. Once more she gave of her best to win 1st Open National, 2nd Open International, 16th Open International Barcelona 750mls against an increased entry of 17,060birds. Her performances were no less heroic than the 1st Open winners themselves, as on each occasion she was flying a further 100mls than the birds that beat her! De Smaragd I was purchased by Louella Stud (U.K.) for 22,000-pounds!
De Smaragd II (NL-85-8559363) & De Smaragd I (?) are full brother & sister. They are unique! Never before had full brother & sister won 1st Open at International level from the Catalan capital of Spanish race points, Barcelona. Beating huge entries & flying into Holland which is a greater distance than the majority of the field.
Smaragd II & I were bred & raced by Wim Van Leeuwen from a combination of the finest Van Geel/Aarden & Kuypers Bros. Bloodlines.
Wim Van Leeuwen
In 1975, Wim decided to specialize in long distance racing (1,000klm plus races). He visited the late Marijn Van Geel & purchased several excellent birds. The famous stock cock Mooi Oog, a nephew of the legendary Dolle ’67, was to become sire to De Smaragd I & II (Emerald I & II).
Dochter Dolle ‘290
The No.1 Stock Hen of the Van Geel colony, purchased by Louella at the Martha Van Geel dispersal auctions where 168 lots fetched 188,000-pounds.
Dochter Dolle ‘290 was top priced hen in the sale.
Spring Mountain Jan Aardens
If you look at the Jan Aardens housed at Spring Mountain Lofts, the Dochter Dolle ‘290 is paired to Smaragd II, & we have 4 g.g/g children in our Stock loft.
We also have 4 g/g children of Peter Pau (Belg-81-3268600) 1st Open Belgium National Pau by 90minutes, 1st International Pau by 30minutes crossed into the above Aarden line.
We also have 2 g/g children of Robert Venus “Super Crack” (Belg-68-457421) 1st National St.Vincent, 1st National Barcelona, 1st National Narbourne, also crossed into the above Aarden line.

This family is still being developed & there was a 3 year break from this family where all the birds were sold. Luckily, through a twist of fate & kind pigeon fanciers, this family is being put back together & currently we hold 4 children of QPF-94-20479 (see below) when paired to his ½ sister (Double Gem x Dtr. Peter Pau) & 2 children when paired to an inbred daughter of Robert Venus “Super Crack”.
